What does the Thyroid do?
The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland located underneath the Adam’s apple, and is a part of the endocrine network, that consists of different glands responsible for coordinating many of your body’s functions. The thyroid’s main task is to manufacture hormones that regulate your metabolism. However, sometimes the thyroid might malfunction, and that will result in it either producing too much hormones (hyperthyroidism), or too little (hypothyroidism).
Iodine and Thyroid
One of the main causes for a malfunctioning thyroid gland is the lack of iodine, a key ingredient in the manufacturing of the thyroid hormone. Iodine is a trace element, and can be found in foods such as shellfish and seaweed. It plays a role not only in regulation of our metabolism, but also our energy levels and healthy hair and skin.
In cases of iodine insufficiency, we recommend taking our Thyroid Complex capsules, as they are designed to be rich in iodine, and other healthy minerals and vitamins. In cases where the thyroid problems are not because of iodine insufficiency, we recommend that you seek out medical help, as some issues with the thyroid might be because of autoimmune diseases.

Bladderwrack
Bladderwrack (Fucus Vesiculosus), not to be confused with bladderwort, is a type of seaweed or algae that can be found in the seas around Europe and the Atlantic coast of North America. Its most prominent characteristics might be the air bladders that decorate the sometimes 90 cm long algae, and in 1811 it was coined as the original source of iodine, a chemical element that can treat goiter. Bladderwrack is also rich in algin, or alginic acid. Algin can only be found in brown seaweed, and has a wide arrange of uses, all from medical and pharmaceutical, to industrial and SPA facials. OBS: it is not recommended to consume bladderwrack if you are already taking medications for an overactive thyroid, as it may cause your thyroid to shrink too much.
Dulse
Dulse (Palmaria Palmata) is a red algae that can be found in the northern coasts of the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. It has been used as a healthy snack for centuries in mainly Iceland and Ireland, as dulse is not only rich in minerals and vitamins, but also in protein, and contains all the trace elements that is needed by humans. It is said to improve everything from eyesight to bone strength, and just like bladderwrack, the iodine in dulse can help treat problems with the thyroid gland. All of this combined, has earned dulse a place amongst the superfoods ranks.
Raw hemp
The raw hemp powder used in our capsules come from Scandinavia, where the hemp plant has been used for centuries in many different forms. The fibers can be turned into rope and clothing, while the oil extracted from the plant was mainly used for cooking and fuel. The hemp seeds has been eaten by humans as well as cattle, and is said to give hair and fur an extra shine. In powdered form, raw hemp is full of antioxidants, fiber, and healthy unsaturated fats.
