What is CBD oil
CBD is short for Cannabidiol, and is one of over 100 active ingredients found in the cannabis plant that is also known as hemp. Through different methods, the CBD and other cannabinoids can be extracted from the plant, and through that made into a more concentrated version of it, in the form of CBD oil. This oil is sometimes also referred to as cannabis oil or hemp oil, and is easier for the body to absorb than consumption of the whole plant.
The hemp used when creating CBD oil is usually Cannabis Sativa, especially in Sweden where it is the only legal form of cannabis. This version is cultivated to be dense in CBD, and only traces of THC, making it perfect for CBD oil. The hemp we use is organic and locally farmed, to ensure that it’s as environmentally sustainable as possible.
What does CBD oil do
Inside the bodies of all mammals, there is something called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This is a system that’s just like the cardiovascular system that pumps blood through our veins, or the respiratory system that fills our lungs with air.
The bodily functions that the ECS regulates are many. They include sleep, appetite, digestion, motor control, mood, immune functions, reproduction, the reward system, memory, pain, and so on. It is the cannabinoids that help activate the ECS, that are either produced naturally in the body, or supplied through the CBD oil. The cannabinoids in the CBD oil bind with receptors in the ECS, which will affect the body’s ability to reach homeostasis.
How to take CBD oil
When CBD oil first hit the market, people consumed it by dripping a few drops under the tongue, in the so called sublingual method. Later, when CBD oil was labeled by the EU commission as a novel food in some countries, and as a pharmaceutical preparation in others, many companies were unable to keep selling it as a digestible.
The CBD oil that we sell at Apoteum is now an essential oil, and while the original recepie hasn’t necessarily changed, we still highly recommend you to not ingest it. Instead, it works great when used for aromatherapy or sauna bathing, and you can also try to mix it in with your creams and lotions. Start with just a few drops, and then increase slowly until you feel that it is giving you the results that you desire.
